Homeless Gallery returns to D-light Studios!

Due to the massive success of last year’s Homeless Gallery, we are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting the un-curated exhibition for a second year as part of the PhotoIreland Festival.

On Saturday 2nd July we will be opening our doors to photographers of all backgrounds, tastes and levels of experience to present their work wherever they see fit within Dublin’s largest studio space.

The Homeless Gallery will open to the public on Sunday 3rd July. To add to this year’s opening event the day will include talks, presentations and debates from photographers, editors and camera equipment specialists – a day not to be missed by any photographer!

To coincide with the Homeless Gallery we will also have a guest exhibition on display from the Visavis Gallery, Kraków. The group exhibition Non-Seasonal Changes consists of a series of images depicting the Polish town of Niepołomice; a place dramatically transformed since Poland’s entry to the EU in 2004.

The Homeless Gallery and Non-Seasonal Changes will run from 3rd – 6th July.

The whole idea of the HOMELESS GALLERY is that there are no entry criteria. HOMELESS GALLERY is open to all artists. What is eventually shown during an exhibition depends solely on the participants own self-censorship. We do not pick the participants everybody can show their work: star photographers, professionals, those just starting in photography, students and amateurs. We do not select their work either – we have no demands as to subject, technique, format or number of photographs shown. The photographs themselves can be shown in frames, or just prints stuck on the wall.
Everybody finds a piece of wall, ceiling or floor for themselves and hangs their work. All sorts of unconventional forms of display are welcome.

The HOMELESS GALLERY exists to enable everybody to show their work publicly, those who for various reasons would have no chance to show their work to the world. It is for those who cannot afford a prestigious gallery, and for those who would never even think of doing so. It is a chance to be noticed for photography students, and those just entering photography. For professionals it is a chance of showing some of their more personal work that never finds its way into their commercial portfolios. For amateurs it is a chance of showing their work to people other than their nearest family and friends. For those who are shy, it is a chance to pull out those photographs hidden away in drawers.
This exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for professionals, amateurs, students and enthusiasts to congregate and collectively showcase their work without censorship.

Participants are allowed to sell their works during the exhibition time.

All participants have to sign a disclaimer.

There will be a 10EUR fee for all the participants to cover studios utility and cleaning expenses during and after the gallery time.

The admission for visitors will be 2eur FREE!

Mixed Colony of Beauty Photographic Exhibition

Mixed Colony of Beauty: Photographic Exhibition

Connie Byrne Hyland, the CBH Design Team and acclaimed photographer Agata Stoinska, bring you a collaborative photographic collection portraying the ever-changing nature of our surroundings.

The three collections include:

“THE COLONY”; in reaction to the economic recession, this collection was inspired by the rugged beauty and intensity of the natural environment.

“THE BEAUTY AND WISDOM OF AGE” examines the contrast between our ancient mythic past and our modern materialistic present.

“MIXED AND MUMBLED” explores the integral role of immigrants within our local community. It offers a reflection on the participation of all immigrants in our society through work, education, and family.

The photographic collections will be accompanied by short films by film maker Marc-Ivan O’Gorman, and an array of eclectic sounds from music facilitator Eddie Sheehan.

This work was accomplished through the vision and dedication of all participants in “PURE THINKING” community project and demonstrate what can be acheived when a group collaborate together with a positive common goal.

“PURE THINKING” is a community group that has been established to allow the integration of different cultural groups to come together to develop projects, which will include music, photography, film, and art.

Make way for the Adornment Project

ADORNMENT is a special art photography project combining the work of photographer Agata Stoinska and producer / art director Eddie Shanahan to celebrate the artistic quality and craftsmanship of contemporary Irish jewellery and accessories.

The ADORNMENT project has two potential outlets – one as a magazine editorial concept to mark the launch of the Year of Craft in 2011 , the other being a calendar to celebrate the work of Irish designers and craftspeople during this special year.

Designers and craftspeople wishing to have their jewellery or other accessories considered for inclusion in ADORNMENT must attend one of the two Submission Days when collections will be reviewed and initial selection for possible inclusion will be made.

Submission Days are Saturday 18th. September and Sunday 19th. September from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at D-light Studios, 46 North Great Clarence Street, Dublin – tel. 01 819 6730. See www.d-lighstudios.com for directions.

Designers who have work selected for possible inclusion in the photoshoots will be required to provide the selected pieces in advance of the shooting days for styling purposes. Selections and final submission schedule will be notified by email.

Currently  the ‘shoot days’ are scheduled for 3rd., 9th. and 10th. October.

All submissions must be insured by their owners against loss or damage as the organisers, while taking every care, will accept no responsibility in this regard.

The ADORNMENT project wishes to highlight rather than influence the work of designers – therefore there is no formal design brief. However three loose themes –  currently existing as a mere collection of words – are being researched from a photographic viewpoint.

Jewellery designers are encouraged to submit ‘Big’ pieces wherever possible.

Theme 1 – translucent, esoteric, waking intimacy, natural, delicate

Theme 2 – bohemia, confident, show off, hippie deluxe, playful

Theme 3 – dirty elegance, grey, hint of danger, sexy
